Beaufort Dental Health Centre is 18
Back in November 1996, something very special was happening.
Mel Moody and Gail Cadwallader were just in the process of creating a place for people to visit, to be cared for and to have their confidence restored in dentists. Beaufort Dental Health Centre swung its doors open 18 years ago this week and what an incredible
journey (with an incredible team) it’s been.
From low points to high points – from flooding to awards of recognition - the practice has gone through every experience with grace, passion and poise– not least because every member of the team understood the importance of good dental health – and, course, creating a good relationship with their patient.
So, why did Melanie and Gail decide to enter dentistry? What was it that called them to put themselves through a gruelling few years at university?
For Melanie, who’s been a dentist for 24 years, medicine was the original plan after leaving school. However, her much-respected biology teacher, one day, suggested dentistry. And so, off Mel went to Edinburgh University and hasn’t looked back.
Mel is very passionate about oral health and thrives on building close relationships with her patients. This way, she can help people feel great about their smiles! Mel loves to get creative…!
Gail’s path was slightly different – she initially had a veterinary career set in her sights but having seen some aspects of medicine that interested her, she soon realised that working with people might be more fitting. After looking into dentistry, Gail was captivated by it – in particular, the hands-on, medical nature of it.
Gail thoroughly enjoys changing people’s lives through supporting patients (nervous or not!) through any phobias they might have. Helping people to feel better about themselves using advancements in dentistry is also something Gail is passionate about.
Clare entered the dental field, purely by accident, and initially, was very nervous herself! However, she worked through her discomfort and uses her experiences now to reassure and support her patients. In fact, Clare has thrived in the field and now fills a number of roles within the practice – joking that she has “…a million different hats…”!
Rachel’s entry into dentistry is a real love story – after meeting the man of her dreams, Rachel decided that instead of going off to University, she’d like to find a career that could keep her at home with her then boyfriend. Fast forward many years and they’re now very happily married, with children (and grand-children!) and Rachel has a successful career too!
All in all, the last 18 years for Beaufort Dental Health Centre have been exciting and inspiring – at times, it’s been tough but that’s all been forgotten about when we’ve experienced the amazing awards we’ve been nominated for.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support. And now, to raise a toast: “Here’s to the next 18 years!”
