 Have you ever had that sense of dread when the dentist tells you that you’re going to need a crown fitting? All you can think is ‘’How long will that take?’’ or ‘’How many visits will it require?’’. There’s no need for any of those concerns with the new member of our team, the Cerec machine. It’s an amazing piece of equipment and following our training with it at the beginning of April, we’re astounded by how simple it makes the crown fitting process. It enables us to fit a crown for you in just one visit; and it won’t be an all-day appointment either as it’s super-fast. We’ll start with the dentist who will take a digital image of your tooth; using this image, we’ll create a 3d computerised model of the tooth. This is a guide for us to use when it comes to creating the crown. Once the dentist is happy, the data is forwarded to the machine which can make the crown out of a ceramic block in 6 - 30 minutes! That’s not a long wait, is it?! The ceramic blocks come in a vast range of colours and so, the dentist will select the closest shade to your surrounding teeth. The dentist will then characterise and stain your crown so it matches the teeth around it. The restoration will then be cemented onto the existing tooth! Great, eh?! There are only 1000 dental practices in the UK that have one of these revolutionary machines; and we’re one of them! As you can see, it’s a really great piece of equipment and has benefits aplenty: Add to this list that the material is very strong (and very similar) to that of the natural tooth and that we’re able to make several crowns in one go, you’ll see why we love the new member of the Beaufort Dental Health Centre team! |
