Do you feel nervous about visiting the dentist? Do you get
yourself worked into a tizz before you’ve even picked up the phone to book the
appointment? Does a family member struggle with the thought of getting their
oral health checked over? If so, you’re not alone. According to research carried out by National Smile Month
(May 18 – June 18), a whopping 1 in 7 adults are
fearful about visiting the dentist. And as a practice that cares about
preventative dental care, we’d like to see that changed (to 0 in 7!). We take our time with new patients; learn about the reasons
they’re unnecessarily concerned. That way, we can really build a rapport with
them, help them to relax and ultimately, enjoy their experience with us. A patient of ours, Julie, was more than happy to share her
experiences with us – and what a journey she’s been on! Julie began her life
requiring multiple facial surgeries that unfortunately continued throughout her
childhood. And with that, her fear of the dentist began. Into adulthood and the fear didn’t fade; in fact, it got
worse. Julie began checking, every morning, for abscesses; hoping and wishing
that today wasn’t going to be the day she’d have to go to the dentist. When
Julie finally came to see us here at Beaufort Dental Health Centre, she’d
actually visited the dentist just 3 times…in 30 years! Upon popping along for her consultation with Clare, a
treatment co-ordinator and our Practice Manager, Julie
said she ‘’…felt listened to…’’; that she was ‘’…no longer just a number…’’. ‘’Beaufort Dental Health Centre couldn’t be kinder or more
reassuring; they tell you exactly what they’re doing, when they’re going to do
it and how they’ll be doing it.’’ (Julie now visits regularly and looks forward
to coming along to see the team). As a family practice, we understand very well the worries
and concerns that may try and appear but we will always be kind, supportive and
reassuring to patients. Please feel free to pick up the phone for a chat – we’re
here to help you smile confidently! |
